Founder and Marketing Geek
When people ask what I do for fun, the first thing that pops in my mind is marketing– generating and applying ideas to help reach business goals. The typical response is that I work too much. Honestly, it doesn’t feel like work. I tend to “geek out” when I see positive results from my ideas. It makes my day.
As much as I like seeing those results, I like it more when I’ve helped a small business. Entrepreneurs inspire me. They’ve taken a risk to do something they enjoy or to create a better life for themselves and their families. (See my blog profiling some of St. Louis’ entrepreneurs.)
I started the Bottled Genie because I see how so many small businesses could improve their marketing efforts if they only knew what I know about social media, search engine optimization, online advertising, direct mail, print ads, email marketing and on and on.
For 10 years, I’ve been at Southwestern Illinois College implementing, measuring and tweaking marketing and public relations tactics. During that time I’ve also freelanced to help small businesses write marketing plans, decide where they should advertise, and increase their ranking in search engines. Previously, I made my living as a journalist and photographer for several non-daily newspapers and a St. Louis Metro East magazine. Now I teach a college-credit class at SWIC sharing my knowledge.
I love sharing my knowledge. I love marketing. If you want to know more, ask me about the free Digital Marketing 101 workshop for small business in the St. Louis Metro.
